If you haven’t read ["FULL SPEED AHEAD - How to make variable data PDF files that won't slow your digital press"](https://www.globalgraphics.com/full-speed-ahead) by Martin Bailey of Global Graphics yet, you should. There are a lot of great tips on how to keep your [iJetColor](http://www.ijetcolor.com) system printing jobs at full speed by making sure that your PDF files are designed effectively. Here are our top 3 tips from the guide:

### **1. Make sure that your image resolutions are set appropriately**

Given the effective resolution of the iJetColor systems – we recommend photos with resolutions no greater than 300 pixels per inch – higher resolutions are virtually never more productive.

### **2. Don’t flatten transparency**

Flattening transparency upstream of the [DFE](http://www.ijetcolor.com/ijetcolorflow) can have two significant unwanted effects:

- It can make the file size much larger by trying to keep the visual appearance exactly the same. 
- It can create some imperfections in the [output](https://blog.ijetcolor.com/blog/do-more-with-an-envelope-with-inkjet-digital-printing) if done without comprehensive knowledge of the press. 

### 3. Optimizing color

 Don’t use too many [spot colors](https://blog.ijetcolor.com/blog/4-efficiencies-a-short-run-full-color-envelope-printer-brings) because it will slow down the processing speed of the DFE. It's not necessary to match a spot color for every different color in a job. Doing so will increase the memory requirements and processing load with the inevitable slow down the [speed of the job](https://blog.ijetcolor.com/blog/4-benefits-of-an-inkjet-press).
